While abroad, I saw one painting that really stood out to me. I'm way more interested in work that is exciting or risqué than anything. While we toured the Society of Illustrators after our very nice lunch, our guide showed us a painting. It was toward the end and I'm sure you remember the one... it was the one about the mayor who'm someone suggested could fix an abundance of economic issues in... New York-- if i remember correctly.
Anyway, obviously there are two sides to the story behind the painting. There's the side where someone truly believed this man could help the wellbeing of the state, and then there was the artist's twist on the solution. The Mayor man was caught heavily visiting a bordello or maybe even participating in prostitution and the artist decided to depict THAT side of things instead of the... brighter side, if you will. It was really hilarious, though, and it definitely shows how two people can have totally different interpretations of situations.
Paint a picture of the man because he's willing to help, or tear him down because he likes sex like everybody else. Here it is!

ReplyDeleteI remember this one too! It was hilarious. It made me think about all the new sexual allegations being released on a regular basis, and there's certainly no shortage of such material to inspire artists. It's a great way to handle the weirdness of a sleazy situation.
