globalization as a choice.

Globalization, defined as organizations expanding to an international platform, definitely has both positive and negative aspects to the art culture.
On a positive note, it serves as a sort of string. It ties countries and their people together by providing… consistency, if you will, among the world. Also, its kind of like optional diversity. You can take part in globalization, but you could also choose to stay deeply rooted in your own culture. For example, you could eat Chinese food in the US or just stick with the standard Cheeseburger. That was a bad example, but you catch my drift.

Some negative parts about globalization could be that, in some cases, these internationally expanding organizations could take over— in a way. For instance, with America being such a global super power, its influence its definitely more prevalent than say, Nicaragua. It might cause some art and cultures to be lost, forgotten, or unnoticed. However they may, in fact, be the richest.

“Rich” was a trigger word for me just now— What I really think about globalization is that he cultures that have not become global, by choice or inability, are probably producing the most unique and amazing art out there. They just aren’t noticed.

  1. I agree that there is unique and amazing art being created in some of the most remote and unspoiled parts of the world. The art created in less globalized areas draws on cultural traditions, including native cultures before the arrival and influences of Europeans. Mexico for instance has a long tradition of mask carving as an art form and also for its use in many annual festivals. Textile art created in countries such as Nepal and Peru include items created for both practical and ornamental uses.

  2. A rich knotted string, is a great mental imagery in describing globalization! The knots of the string can portray the different organizations along the string which is the expansion of art and culture. The richness of the string would present those countries whom are more widely noticed in their advancement of art and culture. The pressure of being noticed allows for the countries to improve their works of art and spread their artworks, in hopes of showing off their practical and ornamental uses of art.
